Zul Mirza Mohamed was charged in Denton County in a Carrolton mayoral race in which he was a candidate with 106 felonies for a scheme in which he forged absentee ballot request applications for registered voters. He had them sent to a supposed nursing home, that was a P.O. Box at a mail store where he leased a virtual mailbox using a fictitious Texas driver’s license and a fictitious University of North Texas student ID. A search warrant of Mohamed’s residence also found a fake insurance ID, a fake notary stamp, and a box of Dallas and Denton County ballot applications. Mohamed pleaded guilty to 25 counts of the Method of Returning Ballot and 81 counts of Fraudulent Use of an Application for Ballot by Mail. Following a three-day sentencing trial before a jury, he was sentenced to four years in prison and 10 years’ probation.
